Eight invited surfers will compete in the Red Bull Night Riders aerial surfing competition this Saturday evening, in front of a huge crowd at the newly opened Finn’s Beach Club. With the use of jetskis for towing-in spectators can expect to see some huge attempts, wild wipeouts and incredible aerials as the sun sinks into the Indian Ocean off Bali’s west coast.

After successfully hosting Asia’s first tow-in competition five years ago, the surfer’s paradise of Bali was an obvious choice for the 2016 edition of Red Bull Night Riders. With Finn’s Beach Club recently opening its doors in Berawa, Red Bull are excited to bring you what will surely be the best night surfing event the world has ever seen at this fantastic new venue.
The field for the 2016 edition of Red Bull Night Riders consists of six local surfers and two international invitees. Lee Wilson, Marlon Gerber, Raju Sena, Bronson Meidy, Lempog Jackson and Wayan “Betet” Merta are representing for Team Indonesia, while the foreign legion will be announced on the day of the event.

Balinese surfing pioneer Ketut Menda, and local legend Rizal Tanjung are two of the judges on the panel at Red Bull Night Riders, where scoring will factor in three major elements: style, amplitude, and landing. With only one wave counting and no prizes for second, there is no reason for competitors to hold back and play it safe: either go hard, or go home empty handed.
“This is going to be a great night for surfers and surf fans in Indonesia,” says Tanjung. “These sorts of events really push performance, so we have to thank Red Bull for all the support they have given action sports over the years!”

Competitors will have the lineup to themselves for two 10-minute windows. At the completion of two rounds the surfer with the highest score will be declared the 2016 Red Bull Night Riders champion, and given a cheque for 15-million rupiah!

Once competition wraps all in attendance are invited to dance the night away at Finn’s Beach Club’s official after party. Local maestro Mister Bennetts will play a sundown set before the winner of the 2010 Red Bull Thre3 Style Championship, France’s DJ Karve, closes proceedings in style.

Red Bull Night Riders will be held at Finn’s Beach Club in Berawa Beach, Bali on Saturday July 30, 2016, from 6pm. Admission to the event and after party is free, and Red Bull encourages everyone to come along and enjoy some of the best surfers in the world putting on spectacular show. RED-MB
